Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, a 63 year old Harvard graduate twice served as Nigeria`s Minister of Finance and Minister of Foreign affairs. The former Finance Minister, single handedly directed the negotiations with the Paris Club of Creditors that eventually led to the forgiveness of US$30 Billion of Nigeria`s debt and the cancellation of another US$18 Billion. She also succeeded in establishing a practice where each state was required to publish a clear account of each state`s financial allocation from the Federal Government of Nigeria, in the newspapers, on a monthly basis.
In the year, 2006, the former Finance Minister, who is married to a neurosurgeon, Dr. Ikemba Iweala, helped Nigeria obtain their very first sovereign credit rating of BB minus, from Fitch Ratings and Standard & Poor`s. From 2007 until 2011, Ngozi Iweala was appointed, managing Director of The World Bank.
Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala who says that, she regrettably would not be available to serve in President Buhari`s regime, advised that Nigerian economists should be allowed to exercise their expertise, since this could be the fastest way to end the economic decline in Nigeria. Regarding the question of her circulating certain facts about the Nigerian Economy, the former Finance Minister emphatically states that, she is unaware of such claims. She maintains that, there are rascals out there, focused on spreading wicked and false information. Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, simply does not want to be characterized as, a flip flopper.
