Taking a que from countries such as Spain, Israel and Italy, France has banned extremely thin models. This law has come into effect due to the fact that, young people may be exposed to unrealistic body images that could lead them to a dangerous sense of self appreciation and self loathing. France`s Minister of Social Affairs and Health, Marisol Touraine, on Friday, stated that, these facts, when not clearly addressed, can seriously ignite health related issues in many people, both young and old.
FACT- Anorexia currently affects between 30,000 to 40,000 people in France. At this moment, there are 90% Anorexic Women in France.
FACT- In the United States, 20 million women and 10 million men suffer from a clinically significant eating disorder at some time in their life, including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorders.
Fashion houses and all employers caught breaking the law, will face fines of up to 75,000 euros ($85,000) and an additional six month jail term.
